The COVID Time Blues

| December 01, 2020

I am going to share this because I’ve had a number of friends, clients and colleagues that I’ve talked to recently that have had a hard time getting motivated.  You can put whatever title you want to it (slump, slight depression, anxiety, lack of energy, COVIDitis, etc…)  If you are feeling that right now, you are not alone.  I would say from Sept 1 – Nov 1 this year I was in that spot.  Busy doing things but I lacked focus, energy, motivation, in short, I was searching for something.  At night, every two minutes I was checking my phone or grabbing crap to eat… again searching for something….all of that stuff.  Having every intention of getting up to work out in the morning but hitting the snooze because that one hour of additional sleep seemed critical for some reason.

A month ago I decided to stop hitting snooze.  To get my rear end out of bed and do SOMETHING.  The first couple of days it was a simple walk or stretch.  I picked up a book or the Bible and read for a while or I listened to podcast that was non-work related… I made the rule of NO WORK RELATED stuff before going to work.  I worked out on a Saturday and a Sunday to get a kick start (and then I didn’t have to get up early).  Just some time to have a release.  A few weeks later I feel really good and have a lot more energy.  Most importantly I am happier.

So if you are in a lull right now, do something (anything) different.  Many times the only one doubting we can do it is ourselves.  Change the negative self-talk to positive self-talk.  Control the things we can control and let go of the rest.

The answer you’re looking for is within you!  You can do it!  Because you’re good enough…you’re smart enough and doggonit, people like you.
